*.. and upon entering, the children sprout wings and begin to fly, frolicking and playing together without regard or concern for race or gender; eating nutritious candy and carb-free ice cream; while discussing philosophy, playing music and jointly painting an endless mural of peace and love.
Sounds a lot like the last bit of the Green New Deal:
“.. shall provide all people of the United States with high-quality health care; affordable, safe, and adequate housing; economic security; and access to clean water, clean air, healthy and affordable food, and nature.”
We MUST participate in saving this planet!
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is certainly on the right track and trying to steer us in the right direction. (Do you hear a ‘but’ coming?)
- A plan without a plan is not a plan – just a bunch of highfalutin goals.
- An overly ambitious and unrealistic plan will end up accomplishing nothing – every time.
- Youth, enthusiasm, dedication, sincerity and making a big splash and name for yourself are all wonderful things, if not negated by pissing off everyone you’ll have to work with to get anything accomplished.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, turn it down one notch, but keep at it.”
What is our responsibility to this planet? We certainly do not treat Earth mindful of the code used by those that treat us: ‘First, do no harm’. Heck, we don’t even treat it as well as expect kids to treat a campsite: ‘Leave it in better shape than you found it in’. We have always seen it as our private little stash of goodies to eat, burn, dig up, crunch up and blow up. We have been greedy, selfish and cruel. And it will be our ruin if we don’t get very active very quickly.
The President somehow can’t admit that the climate has changed although leaves now bloom in February and stay on the trees until after Thanksgiving instead of blooming in April and being gone by Halloween like they did when we were kids; Nancy Pelosi is puffed up with power and ready to assert her dominance at the drop of a hat; and AOC is asking for the moon, the stars and the riches of the galaxy all rolled into one apocalyptic-saving document.
For the first time in our history the rest of the world is poised to act jointly as the dangers have become so blatant, and we have become both a world-wide laughing stock for denying the problem exists and the biggest part of the problem. We are literally talking about survival of the human race, and we are going to let politics get in the way? Great. Isn’t our number one responsibility to this planet to not destroy it? Can we even do that together?
Let’s see Pelosi lead. We need a plan to drastically reduce U.S. carbon emissions; a plan that is feasible with achievable goals that can be accomplished in as short a time period as is workable (let’s just get the one thing done first and maybe leave universal economic security until next meeting). We need a Commission now, to grapple with this stuff in a timely fashion, regardless of whether or not Mr. Trump pulls his head out of the sand at his private beach. C’mon Nancy, let’s see what you got.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, turn it down one notch, but keep at it. Take what you’ve got, stop trying to solve every single human problem and present a PLAN with some hows instead of just whats.
Let’s remember that this is not OUR planet. We just live here with a lot of other creatures that we need waaaaay more than they need us. Maybe it is time for us to begin trying to do no harm and leaving it better than we found it.
