Unprecedented Crime, Climate in Crisis

*A new book “Unprecedented Crime” by climate scientist Dr Peter Carter and researcher Elizabeth Woodworth is a vital addition to our understanding the climate in crisis.

This is a well researched and written account of the present fossil fuel-induced catastrophe befalling all life on Earth. It’s a story interwoven with reverence for our mother, Nature. With over 100 years of combined research experience, this book is rich.

The more subsidized climate-wrecking fossil fuels burned, the more extreme weather occurrences. From the horrendous hurricanes to the epic floods, heatwaves, droughts, firestorms and terrifying tornadoes, they all piled up in 2017.

Unprecedented explains these events and then easily connects the dots.

The physics of converting coal, a solid, or gasoline, a liquid, into an effective heat-trapping gas (carbon dioxide) is well known and proven.

The oceans have absorbed more than 90% of all the fossil fuel heat, or, 560 billion tons of carbon dioxide. It’s the equivalent heat of detonating 300 Hiroshima-style atomic bombs every minute for 75 straight years. The oceans are broiling, and since the oceans drive our climate, we should all be terrified.

Since 1990, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports, one after the next, has predicted the current climate crisis. Sadly, governments have mostly dismissed these scientific reports and failed miserably to reduce fossil fuel emissions.

Today, in many instances climate science is overtly denigrated.

Unprecedented bravely lays forth the underlying reasons including billions of dollars by fossil fuel oligarchs spent on vast amounts of disinformation promulgated throughout the internet over the previous two decades.

This deceit runs throughout the veins of the U.S. electoral system and it has contaminated children. The Heartland Institute has published and disseminated more than 350,000 copies of a spurious account of climate science and forced it into the U.S. school system. It’s not only a crime of denial; but also, inaccurate science that’s thrust upon young inquisitive minds.

Unacceptable.

Unprecedented names the corporate and individual culprits. It chronologically assists the reader to understand the depth and breadth of this shocking duplicity.

Atmospheric Crime - Unprecedented CrimeCarter and Woodworth are rightfully concerned for the children, the animals, the corals, the forests, the lakes, the rivers and the wetlands. Already our planet’s temperature has increased 2.58C, or, 4.64F, carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2eq) since the Industrial Revolution. Vast areas of coral and forests around the globe are dead from relentless heatwaves. That’s irrefutable.

Unprecedented documents the bribery and corruption in climate politics. It delves into the violation of democracy and the $5.3 trillion in fossil fuel subsidies annually.

Unprecedented belongs on everyone’s bookshelf!”

Carter and Woodworth are fighting for children’s birthrights – clean air, fresh water, healthy forests, vibrant grasslands and coral reefs brimming with life. In today’s world, these ecosystems are all toxic from accelerated fossil fuel pollution.

I particularly enjoyed the chapter on media collusion. Rupert Murdoch’s Fox is not news, but rather, it’s a portal for Republican opinion. It’s a gateway, in my opinion, to justify raping Nature and curbing compassion. In part, it’s driving the accelerating Sixth Mass Extinction.

The science appendix is very thorough and comprehensive. This is an excellent book for both secondary and tertiary learning institutions. It’s an important tool for young minds because it exposes the truth in a direct and digestible manner and it provides solutions.

Unprecedented offers optimism by highlighting the role of a group of children, Our Children’s Trust, taking legal action against the government. 21 children and young adults are claiming that the climate crisis is in violation of intergenerational equity.

Our Children’s Trust is seeking a prompt and immediate action on the climate crisis at a federal level by arguing that the government has infringed on the children’s constitutional right to a liveable climate. Their case will be tried onOctober 29, 2018, and indeed the fate of all life will be determined by the U.S. federal court system.

Unprecedented belongs on everyone’s bookshelf!
